TITLE: DIRECTOR OF EARLY
CHILDHOOD & CHILDREN'S MINISTRIES (PART TIME)
PURPOSE: To oversee and grow the Early Childhood (infant-K) and Children (1st-6th grade) Ministries.
QUALIFICATIONS:
o Strong personal faith in Jesus Christ and a commitment to the ministry of Union Church.
o Love for young children and a passion to help them grow in
the faith.
o Spirit of creativity, innovation and team-based leadership.
o Ability to work as a team with the Pastor and the church leaders, toward the purposes and goals of the church.
o Bachelor's degree in childhood development or related field and 2-3 years of ministry experience preferred.
o Certification in First Aid & CPR preferred.
o Japanese bilingual a plus, but not required.
ACCOUNTABILITY: Accountable to the Pastor as the head of staff and the Session through the Discipleship/Koinonia Committee.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Oversee both the Early Childhood and Children's Ministries, leading a team of volunteers, which includes lay-leaders, teachers, and administrative staff, for recruitment, training, and delegation of responsibilities.
2. Facilitate and coordinate the weekly (or bi-weekly) children's sermon for during worship services, including recruitment, training, and coordinating rotation of the leaders/teachers for preparation and delivery of the sermons.
3. Accurately assess the developmental (spiritual, emotional, social, physical, and intellectual) needs of children according to their age-levels, integrating age-appropriate curriculum, creating effective learning environments, praying for families, offering encouragement and providing take-home resources for families.
4. Promote, encourage, and communicate the vision and ministry opportunities for children and their families in the life of Union Church.
5. Ensure & maintain a high quality environment for the health and safety of our children & volunteers by meeting all legal and professional standards in room safety and cleanliness.
6. Partner with other ministry leaders to ensure that the safety systems for children meet all legal and professional requirements.
7. Facilitate and coordinate with the Pastor and Discipleship/Koinonia Committee all details regarding the baptisms of babies and children Union Church.
8. Ensure childcare for special community-wide activities as determined by the Pastor and/or the Discipleship/Koinonia
Committee and other church
committees. This may include special
services, leadership community
meetings and summer events.

(English and Japanese), but with
primary responsibility for the
English segment of the congregation.
The focus is to reach the
English-speaking multi-ethnic people
who have moved into the Downtown
area. Weekly contemporary
worship services are conducted in
partnership with Bel Air
Presbyterian Church. Union
Church is seeking a pastor who is a
strong biblically based preacher,
teacher, one who acts as a resource
person, is supportive, and leads by
example. Church prefers a
pastor who is able to communicate in
Japanese.
