Ministries - Food Program

For over 20 years now Union Church has been supporting a food outreach to the homeless. Almost every Sunday afternoon the delivery part of our team takes out about 51 turkey and cheese sandwiches, juices, bananas and a gallon of drinking water for every person we meet. Even though we see only 50 homeless brothers and sisters a week, we feel that our work is sacredfull of life changing possibilities. Usually two of us make the rounds offering food, friendship and prayers to those in great need.

Jesus calls us to this work which is a blessing all the way around. Over the years our team has given out over 50 thousands of meals and countless prayers. Each Sunday, prior to leaving the parking lot of our Churchwe always pray. Without prayer we would be unable to do this work. Prayer is the gate keeper that allows us access into the lives of men and women living in tents and cardboard boxes on the streets, alley ways and in forgotten areas of our city.

We recognize that we are only making a small gesture of support and lovethat it is God who does the work of transformation. It is only through the love of Christ alive in our hearts that empowers us to do this work. God calls us to reach out to others in this worldthere are many ways to reach outthis is one way.

We meet our homeless brothers and sisters with no judgment-- in a state of grace that can only come from our Creator.
